“If Only They Ate Hawthorn Berries In The Blue Lagoon”
The Blue Lagoon (1980) staring Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins ends tragically when the two young parents absent-mindedly allow their son, Paddy, to bring a branch of red “never-wake-up” berries onto the little lifeboat they were rowing towards a part of the island that was to be their final escape. I don’t remember much from this movie, except for those beautiful scenes where Brooke and Christopher swim in the blue lagoon and run around the Tahitian shore like they are back in paradise. I also remember the scene in which Paddy eats a few of the red berries on the lifeboat, which prompts the two lovers to also eat the berries, and then everyone dies only two hours before a rescue boat passes their way.
February is all about self-renewal as the Sun slips into Pisces, your solar Twelfth House on February 19. Consider anytime before that a period of preparation. I bring up the Hawthorn because it applies to all matters of the heart and soul. Red Hawthorn berries have been used since the Middle Ages to support the heart and normalize cardiovascular functions. Taking care of yourself this month is crucial, even if your ram-like ambitions want to move forward! Certainly you’ll find the first week of the month, especially when the New Moon is in Aquarius on February 6, busy with friends and social events. Romance is in the stars too. But by the 20th, you’ll find your work load increasing and frustrations and delays at a high. This is when you’ll start angrily dreaming about your own paradise and wonder bitterly where it’d gone. My advice: Don’t go down that route. When all the socializing and work projects finally wear you out, remember paradise lies in your heart. Take care of yourself. Try a slip of Hawthorn tea (mountainroseherbs.com or avenabotanicals.com).

Aries 2008: It’s All About Career
The Mars Rover has been roaming the red planet for four Earth years now since landing on January 2004. What does this mean for you, Mars-ruled Aries? There’s a group of people I know who live behind dry brush and electrical gates that say it means your chance at World Domination is close at hand if you have the right wires and dials hooked-up to a radio in the garage. I am skeptical, but not too skeptical, as I am not quick to scoff especially in the face of possible profundity.
When it comes down to it, it’s just hard to be different. You know this. You’ve felt this many of nights, staring at your ceiling, listening to traffic, watching shadows move past your window like intangible answers. Has the world gotten your blazing energy all wrong in the recent past? More than once your burning passion has propelled your visions to great heights, inspiring and leading friends and colleagues along the way, but perhaps last year was all hard work accompanied by only a dim glow of rewards?
But like the Mars Rover, you’ve been exploring a terrain not traveled by many, yourself included. Having gone through a period of deep soul searching, you are ready to take center stage again, this time with confidence in who you really are and what you really want.
2008 will be one of the best career years in your life! Jupiter (planet of good fortune) in Capricorn (your solar Tenth House of Career) signals high potential in career gains. In addition, Pluto (planet of death and rebirth) will begin its 17-year transit through Capricorn, meaning you’ll be stepping across a line that will separate you from a past you will most likely never revisit again as you embark on a new career journey that will peak in about 10 years. It’s up to you to use Pluto’s transit to tie up unfinished business and move forward to meet a year that offers a key to long-lasting success.
Friends and loved ones will be monumental this year. You will grow closer to those you love, as well as meet new people. As you embark on this undeniably successful career year, my general advice to you is to be grateful for loved ones and to forgive past grievances as much as possible (or just cut ties that can no longer hold). You’ll need energy, focus, and support to be at the top of your game, because it’s going to take a whole lot of hard work to fully take advantage of this year’s incredible career potential.

The obstacle is the path. Keep this Zen proverb in mind this month. True to your pioneering and goal driven nature, the important projects youve been cultivating in the past few months will reach a new level of maturation by the 30th and 31st. Arriving at these heights will not come without a good deal of frustration, but then again, its challenge that fuels the Aries soul.
The month will begin with a dose of frustration, but you will feel a deep swell of internal power that will help push through these initial barriers. The first few days of the month might seem a little slow, and you will be impatient to forge ahead with your agenda, but remind yourself of all the hard work and energy youve poured into your goals and look at this short period of stillness as a blessing. You need rest to carryout the challenging tasks that await. You need time to rethink your approach too. Many obstacles this month will require new ideas and solutions.
By the start of the second week, youll be racing ahead as all of your ambitions begin unfolding and ripening at a surprising pace. These ambitions are mostly related to your career and/or artistic endeavors, but this week romance and flirtation are also in your stars. This surge of activity will be exciting, and you might feel busier than ever, but remember: too much opportunity and stimulation can deplete you. This is one obstacle in itself: learning how to achieve a balance of work, play, and rest.
By the third week you will be on fire. Competition will be strong and stakes will be high. You will want to win. But, it will not be easy, yet winning is well within your abilities. If youre trying to reach a new mark in your career or love life, this will be the week youll feel the most pressure and encounter the most hurdles. This only means youre onto something. Youre on the right path, and thats why its hard, and dont forget it.
In Tarot, the Temperance card comes up for you. The card shows an angel pouring water from two vessels, creating a fluid flowing river between the two sources. Think of it like this, Aries, when youre faced with an obstacle, your challenge is to figure out how to mix fire and water into a fluid stream without losing the properties and strengths of either one.
By the 17th, youll need to step off the racetrack and take a break. Life is about ebbs and flows. After riding a week of extremely powerful currents over rocky surfaces, you need to rebalance. Remember to keep up with your physical and emotional health, and dont forget the needs of your loved ones. Taking it easy and letting a softer side of yourself emerge is also a challenge for you, and can be seen as an obstacle to overcome as part of this months course towards a new height of accomplishments.
Harvesting time is close at hand, but you will have to be patient. You can do all thats within your power and talents to push your goals, but fruits ripen at their own organic pace. If you are expecting to find a job, to get a promotion, to make new strides in a relationship, feel assured that all your hard work will pay-off. But, timing is out of your control. This is okay. This is life, and a good lesson for you. Impatience is one of the hardest obstacle for you to overcome, Aries. But, by the end of September, you will see several well-earned successes come full-bloom.
